I wait tables for a living.....its hard work, long hours, and not a very "admirable" job. Nobody says "When I grow up I want to wait tables ! " Its an honest job. Its a thankless job. Servers are expendable. I think everyone at least once in their life should have to wait tables, or work retail during the holidays. I ask myself often why people are so rude, demanding, and often times arrogant when it comes to waitstaff. Dont get me wrong.....I know people have bad days, and you may get a horrific server who ruins your meal. For that I am sorry, but please remember to tip the server who does their job. Keeping your drink full, taking your order accurately, delivering the right food, getting your dirty dishes out of your way, offering you dessert, and cashing you out are our job. Its not our jobs to listen to stupid sexual jokes or come-ons, cut up you meat, take a garnish from your plate passing it to us into our bare hands, taking your children to the restroom, and ignoring all the other tables in our section because you want to talk to me about the weather, your grocery list, or what you are doing after dinner. TIPS......to insure proper service. People are bad tippers.....for the most part. Occasionally you get what you deserve. 20% is excellent. Minimum should be 15% . Bad service stll should be 10%. Now I can hear the people reading this yelling at their monitors. Bad service = bad tip. I get it. I dont blame you. Did you know that waitstaff do not make minimum wage ? $ 2.12 an hour is standard wage. We shake our ass for tips basically. We depend on tips. Please when you have a good server tip them 20% . At the minimum 15%.......please reconsider 10%. If you cannot afford a proper tip eat at home.
